Accident
Ends Reutimann’s Day at Infineon Raceway
UPS driver David Reutimann and the #44 Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR)
Team competed in the first of two scheduled road course events for
the season on Sunday at Infineon Raceway. The race marked the first
start for Reutimann behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car on a road
course. With just nine laps remaining, the #44 Toyota suffered a
blown left front tire sending the car into the Turn 9 wall, ending
the team’s day with a 40th place finish.

Reutimann started the Toyota/Save Mart 350 from the 42nd spot.
Throughout Friday and Saturday’s practice session, crew chief Ryan
Pemberton worked patiently with his driver to determine the starting
set-up for the #44 UPS Toyota. When the green flag dropped,
Reutimann methodically began his quest to advance to the front but
the handling on his MWR Toyota was loose, hindering the driver’s
ability to pass.

New
Hampshire not a favorite: “New Hampshire International
Speedway is probably not one of my favorite tracks on the circuit, but it’s
been a decent track for us,” said Reutimann. “It’s flat through the turns
and that makes it tough to pass, but I think we’ll do OK. Jerry (Baxter) and
the guys have given me fast cars all year and I’m sure they’ll bring one up
there to New Hampshire.”
Last year’s
results: “We
had a good car there last year and we were running up front,” said
Reutimann. “Then we had some carburetor issues that hurt us a little, but we
still ended up with a good finish (Eighth).”
Testing at
Lakeland, FL: “We
have kind of struggled with our short-track program in the past and earlier
this year, so we tested Lakeland (Florida) a couple of weeks ago,” said
Reutimann. “It was one of the best tests we have had. So I believe we are
gaining on it. We just have to keep working on it. The test should payoff.”
Both series
at the same track:
“It will be nice to have both
series back at the same track this weekend, said Reutimann. “I will just
have to run back and forth between the garages instead of jumping on
helicopters and jets like I’ve been doing the last three weeks, which wasn’t
bad. But that trip back to Sonoma last week after the Milwaukee Nationwide
race sure seemed to take a long time.”
The No. 99
Aaron’s Dream Machine for Loudon:
Chassis No.38 is the car that Reutimann will race in Loudon for the
Nationwide race. This Aaron’s Dream Machine raced at Richmond and Phoenix
earlier this year.
2008
NNS points:David Reutimann is currently
in third place in the NNS driver points, 190 points behind leader Clint
Bowyer. Michael Waltrip Racing sits 5th
in the NASCAR Nationwide owner
points with the No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry.
